EXPERIENCE

04/2009-12/2015        Senior Database Administrator        System Engineering

Database administrator for Oracle, DB2, and Netezza databases with a focus on architecture and performance tuning.  Responsible for about 40 Oracle
databases, 300 DB2 databases, and 200 Netezza databases.
·        Migrated Oracle databases from Oracle 10gR2 on Solaris in Florida to 11gR1 RAC on Linux in California with Data Guard for DR, with a production
outage of only 24 hours vs. the application team’s estimated 80 hours.  Performance on RAC was measured as 10 to 100 times faster depending on the
operation.  Implemented NetApp SnapManager for Oracle (SMO) for backups and non-prod database refreshes.  Planned an Oracle 12c upgrade for the
RAC with a migration to HP 3PAR storage.
·        Received recognition from multiple managers outside of the System Engineering department for excellent services in performance turning and
trouble shooting.  For example, reduced execution time from 1 day per day to 100 seconds per day for an agent facing database, enabling insurance
agents to search by names in seconds rather than hours. There are five such examples.
·        Upgraded Netezza Mustang 4.6 servers to TwinFin 6.0 and 7.1, instituted incremental backups, created an automated solution to keep DR databases
in sync with production, and automated QA refreshes from production.  Added a Striper 7.1 server and migrated QA databases there.
·        Upgraded DB2 databases from 8.2 to 9.1, then 9.5, 9.7, 10.1, and 10.5, including ESE to AESE upgrades.  Used HADR and Tivoli System Automation
(TSA) and PowerHA (formerly HACMP) with disk failover for fault tolerance, and Q Replication to maintain the main production reporting database.
Implemented NetApp snapshot backups for production database and clones for stage refreshes.
·        Monitored and managed databases with Oracle Enterprise Manager, IBM Data Server Manager, and Foglight.
·        Used ERwin and Toad Data Modeler for data modeling.
·        Trained operators and developers in DB2 administration to build a group of junior DBAs.

01/2008 to 09/2008        Database Administrator        Mercury Insurance
    Pacific Technical Staffing        Brea, CA
Database administrator for DB2 databases.
·        Created the Mercury Enterprise Data Warehouse DB2 DPF database, and worked with the Business Intelligence team to troubleshoot and tune the
extract, transform, load (ETL) processes in Informatica and MicroStrategy.
·        Maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning, capacity planning, and development support for OLTP and data warehouse environments using
DB2 8 and 9 for Linux and AIX on x86 and pSeries platforms.

2005-2007        I/T Architect        IBM Global Services
International Business Machines, Inc.        San Diego, CA
Delivery consultant with a focus on DB2 and Tivoli solutions.
·        Repaired IBM’s relationships with three customers who were highly dissatisfied with previous IBM consulting experiences.  For example, repaired
a failed Tivoli implementation by a subcontractor, and restored customer relationship via good communication and knowledge transfer.
·        Administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and capacity planning for OLTP and data warehouse environments using DB2 8
and 9 for Linux, Unix, and Windows on Linux x86 and AIX pSeries.
·        Designed and implemented Tivoli solutions using Framework, Enterprise Console (TEC), Monitoring (ITM), Configuration Management (Software
Distribution, Inventory), NetView, and Netcool OMNIbus.
