Over 20 years in the profession the previous 13 years as a database administrator. My experience as a database administrator is with DB2, UDB, and IMS spanning multiple platforms (i.e. Mainframe, Windows, and Unix).

SunTrust Bank, Inc. - May 2004 to Present

·         Primary UDB v8.1 ESE-DPF DBA for a 12 TB Basel 2 warehouse implementation on four IBM P655 clustered BPUs, each IBM P655 has 32 GB memory and 8 processors attached to a Hitachi 9960. Duties include physical database design, DB2 v8.1 installation and Fixpak upgrades, SQL review, creation of all database structures, backup/restore design, problem determination and resolution. Additional software used on the project is AB INITIO for ETL processing and Cognos for end user querying of the warehouse.

 

 

Salem Health Solutions – September 2003 to April 2004

·         Primary DB2 EE/EEE DBA engaged to review existing hardware and software implementation. Hardware consists of 2 P670s with 8 processors and 16 GB of memory and FAST-T 100 with 2.8 TB disk. Software installed is AIX 5.1, DB2 UDB v7.2 FixPak 10, Cognos, and Informatica. Duties include reviewing and recommending optimization modifications for FAST-T array definition, DB2 database configurations, query performance, and stored procedures. Additional duties included support and training of DBA personnel and assisting in the implementation of a regional healthcare data warehouse and several client based data marts.

 

Management Technologies – March 2003 to September 2003

 

·       Providence, Rhode Island – Primary DBA, at a major gaming industry client, implementing a 1 Terabyte data warehouse on a Wintel platform. Hardware consisted of IBM X series server with 4 processors and 8 GB memory. Duties included data hardware specification, data partitioning, writing and implementing store procedures, triggers, performance monitoring, SQL tuning, database, registry, database manager configuration performance tuning, backup and recovery procedures, client mentoring and problem determination.

 

·       Toronto, Canada – Primary DBA assisting IBM, at a major communications client, with a 1 Terabyte data warehouse conversion from Teradata to UDB v8 ESE. The hardware consisted of a P690 with 6 processors and 12 GB of memory. Duties included data partitioning, writing and implementing store procedures, triggers, performance monitoring, SQL tuning, database, registry, database manager configuration performance tuning, backup and recovery procedures, client mentoring and problem determination.

 

·       Raleigh, North Carolina - Assisted IBM, at a major medical insurer, in installation and implementation of UDB ESE v8 on P690 hardware using AIX v5. Duties, as part of a conversion of Lawson database from Oracle to UDB, included writing and implementing store procedures, triggers, performance monitoring, SQL tuning, database, registry, database manager configuration performance tuning, backup and recovery procedures, and problem determination.

 

·       Los Angeles, California - Assisted IBM, at a major software client, with the implementation and performance tuning of UDB ESE v8 for a People Soft installation. The hardware used was 2 P690 frames with 12 processors an 18 GB memory using AIX v5 attached to a Hitachi SANS. The project was a conversion from Oracle to UDB. Duties included database, registry, database manager configuration performance tuning, and problem determination.

 

IBM – September 1997 to July 2002

 

·         Primary IBM DBA in the conversion of a 3 terabyte Distribution Data Warehouse, for a major bottling distributor, from Informix to DB2 UDB v7.2 on a hardware configuration of 4 S80s (18 processor and 24 GB of memory on each ) and 2 Winterhawk IIs (4 processors and 12 GB of memory on each). The database consists of 18 logical DB2 partitions in a high availability environment. Duties included designing data partitioning keys, installation and configuration of Query Patroller, problem determination, mentoring of DBA staff, data placement (on Shark arrays), database configuration, performance monitoring and tuning.

 

·         Lead IBM DBA in converting CA-DATACOM database to DB2 UDB v6 for OS/390 at a major investment firm. Assisted client team in the publication of standards, database design, database implementation, database performance, problem determination, SQL Tuning and mentoring of database administrators in the new environment. Also supplied expertise in implementing DB2 UDB Extended Edition in a Windows NT environment. In addition, directed the implementation and configuration of DB2 Connect to databases on an OS/390 platform for the initial and continued population of the Windows NT DB2 UDB v7.1 database using DB2 replication.

 

·         Primary IBM DBA in the implementation of a 3 Terabyte Retail Sales Warehouse, for a major office supply corporation, providing DB2 installation expertise, database design, data partitioning, and mentoring of client personnel on a 17-node DB2 UDB V6 EEE implementation in an AIX environment. Also, directed backup and recovery strategies implementation using Tivoli Storage Manager.

 

·         Principal IBM DBA responsible for in the installation of a Retail Shipment Warehouse on a 5-node SP2/RS6000 system using DB2 UDB v5.2 Extended Edition. Certified DB2 UDB DBA directing the design and implementation of the physical database model taking into consideration the requirements needed by the Information Advantage query tool. Assisted client team in the publication of standards, database design, database implementation, database performance, problem determination, SQL Tuning and mentoring of database administrators in the new environment.

 

·         Evaluated an application utilizing Micro Strategy DSS Agent on a 100-node MPP SP/2 system running UDB v5.0 EEE. Evaluation included user written application and database parameter settings. Duties included interviewing appropriate personnel, conducting discussions, and documentation of suggestions and recommendations.

 

National Bank of Detroit/First Chicago Bank – June 1995 to September 1997

·       Primary DBA in development and maintenance of banking data warehouse on a 17-node MPP environment using IBM SP2/RS6000 hardware with AIX 4.2 operating system. Provided system administration, software installation and upgrades of DB2 UDB v5.0 EEE and AIX. Provided DB2 UDB technical support for the FCNBD Disaster Recovery System and Oracle support for Artemis Time Tracking System. I am certified in Oracle Database Administration and Oracle Backup/Recovery. Additional duties included SQL tuning, database design, database monitoring and provide mainframe backup production support for DB2 v4.1 application systems.

 

DPM Consulting Services - February 1989 to June 1995

·         Ford Motor Company

DB2 DBA, at a major automotive manufacturer, for a Service Training Education System, Automated Claim Entry System, Parts Entry and Return System, Global Export Vehicle Information System, Car Quality Information System, Returned Parts Maintenance System and Dealer Financial Systems. Provided design, implementation, and post launch database support for system implementation. Worked on globalization of all systems to include Europe, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and Asian countries. Additional duties included monitoring and implementing performance enhancements for mainframe databases and client server queries using the DRDA gateway and Oracle Stored Procedures.

 

·         Medstat Corporation

DBA for a Mainframe and AIX/RS6000 medical data warehouse software system. RS6000 duties included installation and maintenance of DB2/6000, v2.1, file systems, and DB2/6000 databases. Mainframe duties included design, maintain, and implement DB2 databases. Wrote and implemented backup and restore processes for both mainframe and AIX platforms.

 

·         Blue Cross Blue Shield

DBA for Client Server, IMS, and DB2 systems, providing client server support. Designed tables for a short-term NCCM system using Paradox in a LAN server based environment. Assisted in evaluation of several client server packages for a long-term solution for NCCM. Designed and redesigned several IMS and DB2 databases for Coordination of Benefits History (COB) system, Master Medical (MM) system and Blue Care Network (BCN) systems.

 

·         Kmart Corporation

As an application DBA for Teradata Corporation, I assisted on database design, and performance improvement for Teradata databases. Additional duties consisted of analysis design and coding of client server demos using Power Builder and ODBC connectivity to NCR 3600 with Teradata DBMS.

 

·         Ford Motor Company

Designed and implemented client server programming environment for mainframe using Micro Focus Workbench and Stingray IMS. Assisted in writing mainframe IMS on-line and batch programs for Part Cost and Weight (PCW) system. PCW system integrated into Worldwide Engineering Release System.
